Organising Crafts & Hobby Resources

Before I get into this subject I thought it would be helpful to let you know what I can offer and how I can help you to declutter or just get organised. These links to my articles will give you an insight into why I believe decluttering is so important:

Decluttering benefits
Decluttering and organised systems can save you money

What I can do for you:

▪ Decluttering in the home, a room at a time, and setting up organised systems so everything has its own place.

▪ Organising the work area, particularly a home office which may be a multi-purpose room.

▪ Helping you to set up systems and structures in your office, and computer.

▪ Creating a DIY workplan so you can work through it step by step in your own time.

▪ Wherever you live, I can help you to declutter and organise any room with a very detailed workplan, and ongoing phone/email assistance.

You can check out my website for more detail on these services and of course I’m very happy to chat if you want to phone me and talk about any problem areas you may be struggling with.

Tips to organise your crafts and hobbies

Many of my clients are wonderfully creative people, who can make something fabulous out of pieces of fabric, paper, stickers, buttons and beads. They see ‘possibility’ in every item they pick up. Crafts and hobbies can be hugely varied though and may involve equipment as well as small and larger items, all of which need storage.

Once all of these varied items are sorted it’s so much quicker and easier to put your hand on a particular resource when you need it.

Imagine having all of your various bits and pieces and resources which you use for your crafts and hobbies organised in such a way that you can open a drawer or box and find exactly what you want. Everything visible and accessible! No more frustrated searches, or giving up and going out and buying more stuff [when you know you have it somewhere, but it seems to be in hiding].

Here are some simple guidelines on how you can organise small and large items:

– Firstly, hopefully you have a dedicated space or room in the house where you can do your crafts and hobbies and keep items stored together. If you have craft items scattered throughout your home I suggest you consolidate them into the one area.

– Storage is vital, and there are so many varieties of storage these days. Types of storage can include plastic bins with clip on lids, decorative boxes, storage racks, metal storage cabinets, cupboards, book cases, cubes, and plastic 3 or 4 drawer units.

– Once you have decided on the type of storage system that will suit the space or room, then you need to categorise your materials and resources by type. This will clarify the size of boxes or containers you need to use.

– Book cases are great because you can use some of the shelves to stack boxes or plastic containers, and other shelves can be used to create your library of resource books.

– It’s a good idea to label boxes or bins so you don’t have to rely on your memory as to what each box contains.

– I personally like decorative boxes particularly, if they’re going to be on show on book shelves, and you can create a display with attractive boxes of various sizes which can also stack on top of each other.

– Use small containers to categorise the tiny objects which you can then label and slip into a drawer or a box. It’s often the smaller items that tend to get lost but if you keep like minded objects in small labeled containers you can also see when they need to be replenished.

Obviously the area itself also needs to be considered carefully so that you have a comfortable well lit space to work. If you’d like some expert help to create your crafts/hobby room as a beautiful functional area to work in, why don’t you contact me and we can discuss how I can help you.

And if your home or office continues to frustrate you, don’t despair, call me! You’ll love the result of your newly decluttered home or workplace. I hope you have a wonderful month.

In Joy!
