Christmas is fast approaching and many of us are turning our minds to Christmas shopping… And yes, I’ve done mine early this year, well the end of November is early for me. I was working with one of my clients this week and she said she didn’t know what to buy any of her family as they already have everything! My suggestion, which prompted this newsletter was “why not buy an experience instead of a gift”. That’s the reason I wanted to send out this month’s newsletter earlier than usual, in case there are some of you who are stumped for ideas on what to buy for your loved ones.
So back in my car a bit later I started thinking about the kind of experiences that would make wonderful gifts, and here are a few that I think could suit men, women and kids alike. I understand that you’re going to want to buy the kids something tangible, but an event or experience for them to look forward to could also be fun.
– Spa treatments, maybe a facial or massage. I love beauty treatments and they’re not something I generally buy for myself. One Spa clinic even offers ‘couple treatments’ which sounds rather romantic.
– Manicures and or pedicures, we all love those and they’re so relaxing.
– Tickets to a show, exhibition or sports event. I had a look at the website for Auckland Events www.aucklandnz.com/events and it’s full of events and ideas for anyone and everyone.
– Horse or pony rides for the children, or how about tennis or music lessons.
– A series of dance lessons – hip hop, ballet, jazz, ballroom…
– And still on the theme of getting the body moving – how about a session or two with a Personal Trainer at your gym.
– An adventure such as parachuting (this one definitely isn’t for me), ziplining, off road driving, horse treks or walking treks, rock climbing, cycling… the list is endless – here’s a website packed full of adventures and activities: http://www.aucklandnz.com/things-to-do/category/land-activities
– A day out at Snow Planet can be great fun for the whole family.
– You could also buy a voucher for dinner for two at one of Auckland’s lovely restaurants, which could be a fabulous treat for a valuable staff member, or good friends.
There really are so many choices out there for enjoyable, exciting, or relaxing experiences (such as the abovementioned spa treatments).
I am suggesting experiences for Christmas rather than gifts as something that’s a bit different. But I’m also keen on curbing some of that consumerism which is rampant at this time of the year. After all, once we buy all this stuff, we’ve got to work out where to put it.
As I mentioned, I have bought my gifts already and I’m definitely not against buying presents for our loved ones; I love getting presents but more than that, I love giving them.
So to finish up here, I wish you a wonderful Christmas, a really happy New Year, and enjoyable and relaxing holidays.
With my warmest greetings and blessings.
In Joy!
